Learn about becoming a Dog Trainer
So you want to be a dog trainer? Below I have set out some
questions and answers to help you choose whether you want
to be a dog trainer. If you have any problems or would like
to contact me, please call me and I would be happy to give
more information about my dog training courses and
school..
Why should I choose DognBone as a Dog Training School for learning how to become a Dog Trainer?
I have been dog training for 15 years and have also written 2 books which have been published. With 'Dognbone', you only get personalised training on a one-to-one level. That means no classrooms with lots of students, and you get hands on experience with new and existing dog training customers. You will learn many things including lead walking, off lead work, different types of dogs and their many behaviours.
You will also be expected to complete some course work, but this is mainly a practicle and 'hands-on' course. You will learn about different types of leads, food, collars, customer care, booking systems, dog toys, dog products, dog habits and how to talk to customers so that they understand what to do. At Dognbone we are unique, as we do not use treats to train dogs as many trainers do. You will become part of a unique dog training group.
What makes your Dog Training School different from everyone else?
At dognbone you will find a friendly atmosphere and a welcoming reception. As mentioned before, we only offer one-to-one training programme with only 1 student at a time.We also do not use treats whereas many trainers do. Bear in mind that not many dogs will respond to treats all of the time, so you have to use different methods. If you ever get stuck in the future and you need help, you only need to ring me and I will help you and offer advice and support.
How long is the training course?
Although the course is 4 weeks in duration, you do not necessarily
have to go through all 4 four weeks at the same time. We are
flexible and will fit around your needs. If that means splitting
the dog training school course into manageable weeks for you,
we are happy to help. Although bookings are taken in weekly
blocks Monday to Friday, many customers arrive on the Sunday
evening to get settled in as we start at 9.30am on Monday
and finish Friday around 6pm. Once again, I am happy to fit
around suitable times for you.
What qualities do I need to become a dog trainer?
You need to be passionate about dogs, you also need to be able to communicate with people and be flexible. Dog training is not a 9-5 job and you have to work around customer availability.
Is this a franchise?
No. This means that you can work the hours to suit you and not have to rely on other people. This is your business which makes you in charge of your actions.
Do you supply accommodation?
We provide local B&B accommodation if needed. Please discuss
you accommodatation requirements when booking.
How much does this all cost and what
comes in the package?
The course cost is £1999,for the 4 weeks and although this
is cheaper than the majority of other dog training schools,
we take pride in our personal one-to-one tuition and our high
standard of training. If you require a professionally designed
website we can help you with this. We will also put you on
yell.com free the 1st year and even help you with business
card designs.
Do you do a 1day course?
Yes we do,this is designed to help you to see if you want
to become a dog trainer. But in a 1day course you will mainly
be listening and learning and you will still have the hands
on approach with 1 dog. For this we charge £150 per day.
Do you offer a payment plan?
When booking we require £999 deposit and then either the balance
when you arrive or £500 per month for 2 months. If you cannot
afford this please call me and see what we can do. For more
information and payments options, please feel free to discuss
with me.
What if I cancel - do I lose my money?
As we are strict on who we let go through the course, nobody to-date has cancelled. Deposits cannot be returned once paid, so please ensure you are 100% sure you want to be a dog trainer before you book. In the event you need to rearrange your week, we need as much notice as possible.
How much can I expect to earn once
trained?
That depends on your commitment and hours you would like to
work. As a part time job, you can charge approximately £20
per hour. Based on doing just 10 dogs per weeks that is equivalent
to £200 for 10hrs work.
Is there a support service when I
finished?
Absolutely. We pride ourselves on customer satisfaction and
if you get any problems, all you have to do is ring me and
I will help you for as long as needed.
What if I think I need more training
- will it cost me any more?
We structure our course around 4 weeks as in this time, you
you will learn a lot of training techniques and will also
come across many dogs and behavioural problems. If you feel
you need more training, it will not cost you any more money.
